WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Wake Forest sophomore Marta Prieto was named to the
1999 All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team, it was announced by
the ACC office today. It marks the second consecutive year that Prieto has
been so honored; she was named All-ACC and the ACC Rookie of the Year in
1998 after winning the conference tournament as a freshman.
Prieto has started every tournament for the Demon Deacons in
1998-99, leading the team with a 75.6 stroke average and three top 10
finishes. Her best outing of the year came at the 1999 ACC Golf
Championships, where as defending champion she finished with a career-best
round of 70 to place fourth overall. She also earned a sixth-place finish
at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate in November and a ninth-place
finish at the Bryan National Collegiate in April. In addition, Prieto was
on track to collect her second career tournament title at the Caso de Campo
Intercollegiate in March, leading the field after two rounds of before
having to withdraw due to heat exhaustion.
The Wake Forest women's golf team is currently ranked No. 30 in the
nation in the Mastercard rankings and No. 22 in the GolfWeek/Sagarin
rankings. The Deacs recently earned their seventh straight NCAA bid and
are currently in South Carolina preparing for the 1999 NCAA East Regional,
which begins Thursday morning at the University Club in Blythewood, S.C.
