Wake Forest Football Recruit Will Not Enroll

July 28, 2006

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest Director of Athletics Ron Wellman announced today that Dennis Godfrey, a Demon Deacon football recruit from Sanford, N.C., will not enroll for the fall semester at Wake Forest.

"We have discussed the matter with Dennis and we have mutually decided that it is in everyone's best interest that he not enroll at Wake Forest University at this time, pending the outcome of the charges against him," Wellman said.

Godfrey, a 6-3, 265-pound tight end from Lee County High School, signed a letter of intent with Wake Forest in February. An all-state selection, one recruiting service named Godfrey the 14th-best high school prospect in North Carolina. He participated in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and served as captain of the East Team.

Football players report to Wake Forest August 3rd. Media Day is scheduled for August 5th at 9:15 a.m.
