Wake Forest University director of athletics Ron Wellman on Monday earned a second Athletic Director of the Year Award. Wellman has been named the AstroTurf AD of the Year for the Southeast region by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
On May 29, Wellman was named the Athletic Director of the Year by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal.
Wellman is one of 29 athletic directors to be honored at the annual NACDA convention taking place this week in Dallas. AstroTurf selects an athletic director from each of four geographic regions - northeast, southeast, central and west; and from seven different membership categories including Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A), Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA), Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior/community college ranks.
Wellman will be honored along with the other award recipients during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon at NACDA's 43rd Annual Convention at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Tex.
Missouri's Mike Alden received the AD of the Year honor for the Central region was Gene Bleymaier of Boise State was honored in the West and Rutgers' Bob Mulcahy in the Northeast.
